Bollywood wives gathered at Akshay Kumar sister Alka’s salon for a pre-karva chauth bash at Andheri, Mumbai on October 25, 2010. Celebrities and Celeb wives showed up to get mehndi applied on their hands along with a few spa treatments.

Keeps ’ em happy Twinkle has been observing the one- day fast ever since she married Akshay. The Khiladi — loving husband that he is — also fasts the whole day to keep his wife company. Twinkle said, “ I really don’t believe in religious things but karva chauth is a sweet ritual and I follow it because it makes my family happy.” This time however, the star wife might not be able to abstain from food and water all day as she is suffering from an allergy attack and has been advised to take medication and rest.

While Tina runs an interior designing company, Alka runs a beauty spa where she makes people look as beautiful as her.” It was fun! AK’s sister’s bash was called ‘ blast before the fast’. She explained, “ People are generally in a karva chauth and Diwali pre- festive mood so I decided to have a pre- karva chauth event. I decorated my salon Aroma Garden like a small flea market with chudiwala, bindiwalas, paani puri sellers and candles. There are mehndi girls and girls giving head and foot massages, polishing, hair and other stuff which people do for karva chauth. It was fun.”

What is Karva Chauth?

It is a festival in which married Hindu women observe a fast that they believe ensures their husband a long and prosperous life. It is an annual event that provides an opportunity for these married women to get close to their in- laws. Those who observe the fast abstain from food and water the whole day till the moon rises. According to the ritual, the women offer prayers to the moon. They look at the celestial orb through a sieve and then at their husbands through the same sieve.

Their husbands then feed them their first morsel of the day and their first sip of water, so they can break their fast. The women then feast on a specially prepared meal.

Sometime back, there was news about Akshay Kumar's wife Twinkle Khanna's connection with Dawood. Now Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has denied media reports that his wife Twinkle Khanna attended parties hosted by underworld don Dawood Ibrahim in Dubai, terming them as "untrue".

"Woh khabar ek hi din ayi aur bandh ho gayi, na mere ghar par koi CBI ayi, na koi police ayi, aur na hi koi hawaldar aya. Agar isme koi sachayi hoti to koi na koi ghar aa hi gaya hota. (This news was there for a day only. I have got no idea from where all these stories come from. If there was some truth in it, my house would have been raided. But neither did the CBI nor any police or even a constable come to my house for any enquiry)," Akshay told reporters at a press meet on Monday evening.

The actor added that he felt bothered by such reports, but was getting used to it.

"Such kind of gossip and news keep coming up and sometimes it does create difficulties, but slowly you get used to it," he said.
