Here's Looking at Dabboo Ratnani's 2009 Calendar

B-Town photographer Dabboo Ratnani unveils his 2009 calendar today amidst the starry brigade. He is celebrating the 10th year of his work of art. To mark the decade, Dabboo has indulged in two things he has never done with the camera — shooting an actress in a sari and working with Sushmita Sen, who graces his calendar for the first time.

Who's in it

Apart from Sush, it features Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, Sushmita Sen, Sanjay Dutt, Kajol, Riteish Desh-mukh, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan.

Mixed hues

"I have not restricted myself to any dramatic theme for 2009. Some are in black and white, some are in reds while the rest are in vivid colours," says Dabboo who begins work on his annual ritual in September every year. "Initially, I used to collect snaps of the stars I had shot and put them together for the calendar. But later, I began shooting them exclusively for it."

Kajol

Initially, it was supposed to be shot in a rundown garage. But when I saw Kajol in the gown and in keeping with her bindaas image, I put her on top of a cab. We shot for it on the streets of Oshiwara and despite the crowd, she was gung-ho. The concept is the morning after a party with the glass and her footwear carelessly thrown in.

Riteish Deshmukh

A Beatles-inspired black-and-white '60s look. I wanted to give the picture an extremely retro feel. In stead of having him strumming the guitar, I had him chucking it — just to make it look more cool. And check out Riteish's suit.

Deepika Padukone

This is the first time in all these years that I have shot an actress for the calendar in a sari. That is why the warrior queen/devi look with the sword in hand. The picture is sensual but has a lot of mood in it.

Sunjay Dutt

I had gone over to Sanjay's place to shoot him. But when I saw his Ferrari, I changed my mind. He had just bought it and as he is crazy about cars, it had to be him and his new pair of wheels.

Sushmita Sen Wins the Fun Fearless Woman Award For 2008

Sushmita Sen won the Most Fearless Woman awards at the recently held Cosmopolitan Fun, Fearless, Female Awards. We can't think of anyone who deserves the award more. Sush is one actress who has always chosen to live life on her own terms without thinking of the consequences. Even daughter Renee feels her mom is the most fearless lady around. Sushmita has always trodden the unconventional path — whether it be adopting a baby girl while being unmarried or in her choice of men and films. We know Sush to be a fighter — who can fight her way through any battle!

The Event: Triumph's Autumn Winter Collection

Date and Venue: Friday November 7, Hotel Tulip Star, Juhu

They chose a forgotten venue to put together this unforgettable show, Triumphs Thorsten Allenstein and choregraphed by Farah Khan. The massive glittering set was lit up further when an army of beautiful lingerie clad models breezedn to pulsating music that swept across genre.

When director Farah Khan beckons, B-Town follows. So when she was roped in to direct a show for Triumph lingerie, all of B-Town showed up to cheer her.

Thorsten Allenstein of Triumph, says, "We wanted the show to have an international concept with a dose of Mumbai masala. Farah fitted the bill."

Farah adds, "The grand scale of the show really excited. I know that there's a stigma attached to a lingerie brand show but it was a classy and spectacular event."

Overwhelmed
The director is overwhelmed by all her friends from the industry who showed up to support her show, "I was touched especially with Sush-mita and Mallika Sherawat turning up, as they make rare appearances. Shah Rukh was shooting for Rab De but he asked me after pack-up, if he could still come. But by that time, the show was over, so I advised him not to."She says she had a big scale for the show because of Karan Johar, "He always used to shout at me that I don't give scale to my songs so I guess I have learnt that from him. It meant a lot that Karan, who was attending Pooja Shetty's mehndi dressed in an Indian outfit, went home, changed and came specially for my show."

Juicy tidbits
Sharmilla Khanna and Bhavna Pandey organised the delicious menu which had everything from duck to pork, chicken, prawns, paneer, paté and wine.

Mallika Sherawat looked stunning in her little black Dolce & Gabbana dress, with white Chanel shoes.Karan Johar (Shah Rukh Khan's best friend) and Sajid Nadiadwala (Salman Khan's best friend) initially looked coldly at each other but in the presence of many had no choice but to hug each other.Farah's husband Shirish Kunder looked dapper in a hat. Nadiadwala and he appear to have forgotten their Jaan-E-Mann woes as both were seen chatting away merrily.

Hrithik Roshan's wife Sussanne wore a teeny blue number (we like it, Sue!). Malaika Arora Khan, was out of town but hubby Arbaaz attended with sister Arpita and Alvira.

Chunky Pandey was seen arguing with one of the presenters when asked to quit smoking at the venue."Vivek Oberoi had a blast. He told us later, "I loved the show. I think Farah did a great job! I loved the combination of the Nashik dhols with the girls in lingerie — a very unexpected and interesting mix."Harman Baweja came with Amrita Rao (and not good friend, Priyanka Chopra). Farah was heard ribbing Harman that he and Amrita had deliberately come together to promote their film Victory.
