Cricket and Bollywood are soon going to be shaking hands again, this time for another cause but only with a sense of festivity. The venue being Sri Lanka, the twenty 20 charity match between Bollywood stars and the Sri Lankan cricketers will be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo on June 4. Organised by IIFA, this one would surely get the crowds soaring in.
Reports suggest that bollywood superstars Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan will come together for this charity cricket match. Its being reported that Shahrukh will captain the Bollywood cricket team while Salman will play under him as a team member.
The actors, who have not been on speaking terms for the last two years after their fight during the birthday party of actress Katrina Kaif in 2008, will unite to face Sri Lankan cricketers during the match, which will help raise funds for the rehabilitation of former child soldiers.
Forming the Sri Lankan Cricket side are Sri Lankan cricketers, Muttiah Muralitharan, Sanath Jayasuriya, Kumara Sangakkara and Jayawardena, among many others. The Indian contingent prepared to put up the fight for charity include superstars, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Salman Khan, Suneil Shetty, Riteish Deshmukh and many more.
Legendary Sri Lankan cricketer, Muttiah Muralitharan said, "Playing the greats of the Indian cricketing world has always been special to me. The IIFA Foundation Celebrity Cricket Match is indeed a unique opportunity to make friends with the greats of the Indian Cinema fraternity and see how they compare. I hope our countrymen will root for the cause, supporting the initiative of 'Cricket for Children', in the spirit of the game."
Kumar Sangakkara will captain the Sri Lankan cricket team. The festivity would be added by the local and Indian singers who would be performing there and the fans would have an opportunity the rub shoulders with their favourite stars. Add to that, the fact that the match isn't extremely serious, the general rules remain except that the Bollywood team gets to have eleven players in a rotating manner so that every player gets a chance to perform.
Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu and Sanjay Dutt will flip the coin for the toss during the match, which will be organised on the day two of IIFA weekend.
Sri Lanka Cricket along with the Sri Lanka Tourism are pleased to organise this match as the proceeds of this event go to Habitat and UNICEF.
Shahrukh Khan to perform at IIFA Awards
Shah Rukh, will also perform during the three-day-long extravaganza to be held in Colombo June 3-5, after a gap of five years.
He gave IIFA a miss for consecutive five years apparently because of some differences with IIFA brand ambassador Amitabh Bachchan. But that is past for SRK now. Now he is performing on stage besides participating in the IIFA charity match between Bollywood stars and Sri Lankan cricketers.
The organizing company Wizcraft proudly announces this to the press, “This year Shahrukh Khan will be performing at IIFA.”
Other than SRK, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Ritesh Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi will be dancing at the award function on the final day of the 3-day gala event. IIFA will be held from June 3-5 in Colombo.
