Picture: Deepika Padukone with Designer Rohit Bal
Deepika Padukone will walk the red carpet at the 63rd annual Cannes Film Festival courtesy an invitation from a luxury brand. Rohit Bal will design the look and style of the actress. Deepika will be seen in a sensuous sari designed by designer Rohit Bal.
This would be Bal's first work since suffering from a heart ailment and having surgery earlier this year. Bal revealed in an interview to a newspaper, "There's a lot of criticism on why Indian women wear Western outfits at red carpets of premiere events. This year Deepika will show the world how beautiful saris are. She will be wearing a beautiful, super sexy saree." Bal added, "The sari would be ivory in colour."
"It is a great honour to walk the red carpet representing India at Cannes and it's a great joy to work with Rohit again," Deepika told the newspaper.
However, Deepika will be in Cannes only for a day. She'll be attending the premiere of French film Tournee (On Tour), directed by Mathieu Amalric, which is competing for festival's top prize, the Palme d'Or.
Looks like Dippy, has now set her sights on a global platform (Hollywood?)! In the past years Aishwarya Rai and Mallika Sherawat have also been on the red carpet. Chalo let's see what magic the carpet does for Ms Padukone.
