The reception was hosted by Malik and turned out to be a headache for his family since many uninvited guests showed up to take part in the celebrations at the Sialkot hockey ground. Added to this heavy security arrangements by the Punjab Police and the insistence of the local administration on enforcing the energy conversation measures also led to the problems during the function.

A private channel ‘Duniya’ reported that tennis star Sania’s family, which had arrived from India for the celebrations, left for Lahore early as they were upset at the mismanagement at the function. Eyewitnesses at the function said Shoaib and Sania, who were sitting on the stage and greeting the guests, also left before the function ended. “There is no reason known why they left but apparently there were problems when the younger brother-in-law of Malik, Adnan was stopped at the main entrance by security guards from entering the function,” one eye witness said. Eyewitnesses said hundreds of people showed up for the reception many of whom were not invited and without invitation cards. “This led to a huge rush at the main entrance and it made life difficult for the security personnel as well to control the situation,” he said. He said there were reports that invitation cards for the wedding reception had been sold by some people for between Rs 5000 to Rs 10,000. To make matters worse, the power corporation officials insisted that no extra lighting would be allowed at the reception.

In another dramatic turn on Monday, the much-awaited wedding of tennis star Sania Mirza and Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik was performed at a five-star hotel around 1:00 p.m. as per Muslim religious customs. The nikah was performed in the presence of a select gathering comprising only the family members of the groom and the bride.

There was high drama at Sania’s residence as the celebrity left her posh residence at Jubilee Hills accompanied by her parents, Imran Mirza and Naseema Mirza, and sister Anam Mirza.

A battery of cameramen, from print and electronic media, chased the bride to the venue, which was initially kept a secret for security reasons.

A close relative of the Mirzas described the ceremony, which lasted for ten minutes as a ‘very simple affair’. Family members of Sania and close relatives of Malik, including his sisters and brothers-in-law attended the function.

Keen to end speculation, the families decided to go ahead with the nikah ahead of the earlier announced wedding date of April 15. Sources said the families steered clear of all possible legal hurdles before going ahead with the ceremony by seeking necessary counsel.

Shoaib’s passport, however, is still with the police. His passport was collected by the police after they registered cases against him, following a complaint by Ayesha Siddiqui, a Hydreabadi woman, who claimed that the cricketer had married her earlier. The controversy over Ayesha and Shoaib’s marriage ended when the Pakistani cricketer ‘divorced’ her after community elders intervened.

"The nikah (marriage) has been completed, it has just got over. Please pray for the couple," Rucha Naik, a spokeswoman for Mirza, told reporters waiting outside the hotel.

Sania's father Imran Mirza said that Sania looked beautiful and shoaib also looked dashing in his sherwani.

Shoaib's Brother-in-Law Imran said that everybody was very happy and only close relatives and friends arrived. He said Only 20 members from pakistan were there for the Wedding event and the rest were all from Hydrabad.

The family sources informed that the Mehndi ceremony will be held tomorrow (april 13th), sangeet on April 14th and the Reception will be held on 15th or 18th of April 2010.

Sania Mirza - Shoaib Fix CCTV Outside Their House in Hydrabad To Track Mob

In times of love, sex aur dhoka, the newly engaged couple - Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik - have installed a CCTV outside Sania Mirza's Hyderabad home. It's nothing lascivious. The camera is meant to monitor the crowd outside the Mirza residence, especially the paparazzi.


Incidentally, police permission is required to set up a surveillance camera, but the Maliks have flouted the rule and installed one in a corner of the first floor of their residence, adjacent to the room that Shoaib currently occupies.

Thanks to the camera, the couple has been able to dodge the media and even step out to receive guests, suggest sources.

Apart from alerting family members on the happenings outside, the camera has been providing unexpected entertainment, an insider said.

The stars and their families watched reporters cornering an astrologer, who had strayed into the venue, with his parrot. While the astrologer was clueless about the Sania-Shoaib mania, reporters who believed that the Mirzas might have called him for an astrological consultation, threw several questions at him.

No permission
The Mirzas have not obtained permission to install the CCTV camera. When contacted, Stefen Ravindra, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, said, "They have not taken permission, but before we take action, we have to check why they are using the camera."

Sania was denied a visa to Sialkot, Shoaib's hometown in Pakistan. Hence, the reception venue has been shifted to Lahore where it will take place either on April 16 or 17.

Now that Shoaib Malik has paved the path for his proposed marriage with Sania Mirza, let’s talk happy wedding-stuff.

As of now, the wedding is to be held on April 15 at Taj Krishna in Hyderabad. However, the Mirzas have a back-up plan in case there is some disruption. For example, the Shiv Sena is planning to ‘boycott’ the wedding.

But in case, there is any sign of trouble, the wedding may be shifted to one of the heritage hotels in Jaipur or Jodhpur in Rajasthan.

Former tennis champs Steffi Graff and Andre Agassi head the list of Confirmed Guests. Former Pakistan cricket captain Imran Khan, a mentor of sorts to Shoaib, is is a maybe. His ex-wife Jemima Goldsmith, who was reportedly fond of the young Pakistani allrounder, may join Imran in wishing Shoaib and Sania.

Other guests who have Reserved a Sorry-can’t do-but-wishing-the-couple-the-very-best are Kajol and Ajay Devgan (currently in Dubai), tennis ace and mentor Mahesh Bhupathi (who will be in Monte Carlo) and actor Lara Dutta who will be with her family in Bangalore. Among the invitees are Hyderabad Police Commissioner A K Khan.

It has earlier been reported that Imran Zafar (Shoaib's Brother In Law) informed the press about the invitees to the Reception and said, "The guestlist will have cricketers Bhajji (Harbajan Singh), Viru (Virendra Shewag) and Ashish Nehra. My son (Shoaib’s nephew) is a huge fan of Team Kolkata. We will be inviting SRK. The rest of the guestlist will be decided once Shoaib returns to Pakistan. There’ll be no reception in Dubai.”

Unconfirmed reports say a sangeet of sorts is being planned in Mumbai, in which the bride’s good friend, Bollywood hottie Shahid Kapoor, will dance.

PERSONAL INVITES

The family is said to have dispatched about 800 invitation cards, expecting twice as many guests. Sania’s father, Imran Mirza, has been busy, inviting local friends and VIPs personally.

Though the number of guests coming from Pakistan and Dubai is not known, the Mirzas are said to have reserved about 25 rooms at Novotel hotel near Shamshabad International Airport. An equal number of rooms have been booked at hotel Taj Krishna and Taj Deccan.

Meanwhile, Shoaib’s mother Noorjahan and sister arrived in the city last Wednesday and are busy shopping for the bride and bridegroom. Sania’s mother is learnt to have ordered Sania’s wedding jewellery from a Mumbai showroom.

Shoaib Malik-Sania Mirza Marriage May be Postponed

HYDERABAD: As events around the wedding between Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik and tennis ace Sania Mirza get murkier by the day, the Indian sports icon's family was "keeping all options open", including postponing the wedding, indicated a close family friend.

Andhra Cricket Association's former secretary V Chamundeswaranath, a close friend of Sania's family, said late Monday that "while no decision was taken to postpone the marriage, the family was keeping all options open".

Chamundeswaranath has been regularly visiting the Mirza family ever since Shoaib arrived on Friday for his wedding scheduled for April 15.

With Ayesha Siddiqui, who claims to be Shoaib's first wife, launching a legal fight to prove her claim and the police not ruling out the Pakistani cricketer's arrest, the two families are seriously considering delaying the marriage, it is learnt.

Police on Monday grilled Shoaib at Sania's house after booking a criminal case of cheating, harassment and criminal intimidation against him following a complaint by Ayesha, who is also a resident of this city.

Though both Shoaib and Sania, during their interaction with the media on Monday, asserted that the marriage would take place April 15, the family is visibly worried over the impact the controversy may have on the celebrations.

Sania was tense and irritated while answering media queries on Monday. "Of course I am upset but we are happy that we are together and we are happy that we are getting married, Inshallah. We want to remember this as a happy occasion in our life and not as bad thing or negative thing," she said.

Police officers, who took away Shoaib's passport, said he may be questioned again and may also be arrested on the basis of evidence they may come across during the course of investigations.
