Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori Promote Kites at R City Mall, IMAX and Big FM Studios in Mumbai

Hrithik Roshan-Barbara Mori starrer Kites has grossed over Rs.21 crore on its opening day. It has become the second highest opening-day grosser after 3 Idiots, its distributor said on Saturday.

Kites released with 2,000 screens in India and across 500 screens overseas Friday.

The film that has been distributed by Reliance BIG Pictures is a love story between an Indian guy and a Spanish girl.

Kites has also caught the fancy of the American media, making it perhaps the most reviewed Bollywood film on opening day by so many US critics.

The New York Times considered it "all completely loony, but the stunts are impressive, the photography crisp and the leads so adorably besotted that audiences might as well check their cynicism at the door." "A lovers on-the-lam blast of pure pulp escapism. Directed by Anurag Basu with a finger in every genre jar, Kites caroms from car chase to shootout, from rain dancing to bank robbing with unflagging energy," it said.

In Times' view Bollywood star "Roshan requires viewing uncut: writhing on the dance floor or just gazing into space, the man was made to drive women crazy, one movie at a time."

Calling it "A romantic adventure!", Los Angeles Times noted "the love story draws from westerns, musicals, film noir, chase thrillers with stunts so preposterous they verge on parody - and it gets away with everything because of Basu's visual bravura and unstinting passion and energy."

Directed by Anurag Basu, the film has been produced by Hrithik's father Rakesh Roshan

Barbara Mori was born on February 2, 1978 in Montevideo, Uruguay and is a Mexican actress and model. Barbara is of Uruguayan-Japanese and Mexican descent.

Barbara in Kites, which is the most talked about film in Bollywood right now. Film's director Anurag Basu, who had seen Barbara's film Inspiration before, said she was always his first choice.

Hrithik Roshan has done some of his most sensuous sequences with her in Basu's film.

There were reports of an alleged affair between her and Hrithik Roshan. Rumours also suggested that Hrithik's wife Suzanne had moved out their house but the couple went on to deny these reports.

Mori started work modeling and later became a telenovela actress with TV Azteca when she starred in the soap opera Azul Tequila.Her big break came in 2004, with the remake of the telenovela Rubí by rival network Televisa, in which she played the title character.

She is of Uruguayan-Japanese and Mexican heritage; her Japanese ancestry is from her paternal grandfather. She has two siblings, actress Kenya Mori and brother Kintaró Mori. Her parents Yuyi Mori and Rosario Ochoa divorced when she was three years of age. Mori spent her early childhood between Mexico and Uruguay and finally settled in Mexico City at the age of twelve

One day, while working as a waitress at the age of fourteen, fashion designer Marcos Toledo invited her to work as a model. She became independent by the age of seventeen and went to live with her cousins. At nineteen she met actor Sergio Mayer, who would later become father to their son Sergio, born in 1998. They never married.

Mori was diagnosed with early stage cancer and is now a proud survivor. She talks about her journey in UniGlobe Entertainment's docu-drama titled 1 a Minute, scheduled for release in 2010. The documentary is being made by actress Namrata Singh Gujral and will also feature cancer survivors Olivia Newton-John, Diahann Carroll, Melissa Etheridge, Namrata Singh Gujral, Mumtaz and Jaclyn Smith as well as William Baldwin, Daniel Baldwin and Priya Dutt, whose lives have been touched by cancer. The feature is narrated by Kelly McGillis. The film will also star Lisa Ray, Deepak Chopra and Morgan Brittany.

Hrithik Roshan, Barbara Mori starrer Kites premiered in London. Leicester Square wore a festive look with Indians thronging to see Hrithik Roshan, who walked the red carpet for his film's European premiere along with co-star, Mexican actress Barbara Mori and wife Suzzanne Roshan.
