Never Felt This Free Before: Manisha Koirala

For Manisha Koirala, who's heading off on her honeymoon (she reveals some of her plans), loving her guy's family comes quite easy. PS: The actress says she doesn't feel "tied down". Will continue to act in films

Newly married actress Manisha Dahal (nee Koirala) says her marriage was like a dream. She's off on a dream honeymoon to Europe for a month.

The actress says, "I feel different now that I'm married. It's as though I've found my bearings in life. There's a new sense of belonging, as though there's someone constantly there to support me, to hold me when I fall. I've never felt this way before."

Love all
Manisha says she fell in love with not just her husband but also his family. "Our families have been close friends for years. I know Samrat's family since before our marriage. So it's not really an arranged match, in the true sense. I've never felt so happy. Marriage is supposed be a restriction. It's supposed to tie you down to another person's feelings and family. But I've never felt so free before."

Dream honeymoon
On Tuesday morning she was busy packing her own and her husband's clothes for the month-long honeymoon. "I've planned a dream honeymoon for us. I've been to the European destinations before as a single woman. This time it's different."
One of the major cities on her honeymooning map is Paris. Incidentally, Manya has always dreamed of owning a home in the French capital.

About the slim B-Town attendance at her wedding Manisha says, "I didn't invite too many people from the film industry, only those friends who've been with me for as many as twenty years." As far as her continued B-Town inning goes, Manya said yes to a film where she plays a politician.

Contrary to reports, she signed this film before her marriage. "I said yes, mainly because a dear friend, cinematographer Ashok Mehta was involved with the film. I'll be doing selected films after marriage; certainly not decorative roles." And no, she is not planning to leave Mumbai. "This city and my work will always be very important to me. But yes, I do have to be in Nepal more frequently now. I've two sets of families there.

It's '2010: A Love Story' for Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala, who tied the knot with beau Samrat Dahal in a traditional ceremony held in Kathmandu.

The 41-year-old Nepalese beauty exchanged wedding vows with Dahal, 34, in a private function at the Gokarna Forest Resort, 10kms east of the capital, attended by family close friends only.

Dressed in a yellow saree, Manisha garlanded Samrat and exchanged wedding rings as priests recited Vedic mantras in the presence of her father Prakash Koirala and mother Sushma.

Besides her family members, close relatives and friends, those attending the function were Bollywood actress Suman Rajnathan, Manisha's co-star in her debut film Saudagar Vivek Mushram and Govinda'a wife Sunita. Jackey Shroff and Govinda are also expected to attend the wedding reception to be held at Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza on Sunday.

The celebration included traditional Nepali music Panchai Bazaa and a cultural dance. Nepali, Indian and continental dishes were served at the resort, sources said.

Spread over three days, the main ceremony will be held tomorrow when the bride will go to the groom's house after performing hour-long rituals as per the Hindu tradition.

President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, Maoist chief Prachanda and former King Gyanendra are expected to attend Sunday's grand dinner party in which some 3,000 guests have been invited.

The actress will continue with her movie career even after the marriage, her father Prakash Koirala, nephew of late prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala, told PTI.

Manisha will live in Nepal and will mostly devote time to Nepali films, which she has already begun by acting in Dharam opposite famous actor Rajesh Hamal, said Koirala.

Manisha, who caught the imagination of film lovers with her 1991 Subhash Ghai film Saudagar, later went on to give memorable performances in Vidhu Vinod Chopra's 1942: A Love Story, Mani Ratnam's Bombay, Dil Se and Sanjay Leela
Bhansali's Khamoshi.

The actress, grand daughter of Nepal's first elected Prime Minister Bishweshwor Prasad Koirala, will also throw a lavish party two days later at Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza.

The marriage comes two months after the demise of Girija Prasad Koirala.

Dahal, who the actress met on Facebook a year back, has completed Master's Degree in Alternative Energy from US and he is currently involved with his family business, shoe manufacturing.

The actress had evaded marriage over the years and broke off two engagements in the past. She was reportedly engaged to ex-Australian ambassador to Nepal Crispin Conroy in 2001, but broke up with him soon.

Last year too, the grapevine was abuzz with reports that Manisha will wed American speaker and author Christopher Dorris, but that relationship too ended.

Manisha Koirala To Marry Nepali Businessman Samrat Dahal on June 19

Kathmandu: Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala is set to tie the knot with a Nepalese businessman on June 19 following a few months courtship. The 40-year-old actress is marrying Samrat Dahal, a young businessman from Maharajgunj, a newspaper here said.

“He (Dahal) is well-educated and comes from a family with an excellent background. I like him and I respect her (Manisha’s) decision,” Manisha’s politician father Prakash Koirala was quoted as saying.

"We have fixed the wedding date on June 19," said Surendra Dahal, father of the groom and a businessman whose Leather Wings company does rolling business and has associates in Bentinck Street of Kolkata, famed for its leather shops in Chennai, New Delhi, Kanpur and Agra.

The US-educated Dahal owns a company that deals with alternative energy. From Sindhuli district of Nepal, he is the son of Surendra Dahal, the owner of leather wings. It is not sure whether Manisha will quit the tinsel town after her wedding, but Dahal said he would leave it all to her, the paper reported.

The courtship between the couple started a years ago. Three weeks back, Manisha decided to marry Dahal, the report said. According to family sources, priests have proposed June 17 for ‘swayamvar’, June 18 for ‘mehndi’ and June 19 for the marriage, it said. Manisha made her foray into the world of cinema with a Nepali movie, Pheri Bhetaula. In 1991, Bollywood director Subhash Ghai gave her a break in Saudagar.

Previous Engagements:
In 2001, she broke off her engagement to the then Australian ambassador to Nepal, Crispin Conroy, saying she was not yet ready for marriage.

Last year, she was to have tied the knot with American author, speaker and mental toughness trainer Christopher Dorris but the wedding bells did not ring. Now, Nepal's star in Bollywood, Manisha Koirala, is ready to return to her roots by taking the plunge with fellow Nepalese Samrat Dahal.
