Sania Mirza Gets Rs 61 Lakh as 'Mehr' From Shoaib Malik

Hyderabad, Apr 13: The Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, who married the Indian tennis star Sania Mirza on Monday, Apr 12, has paid Rs 61 lakh as 'mehr'.

Mehr, which is the gift given by the groom to his bride at the time of marriage, is a prerequisite for a Muslim marriage. The gift can be given in the form of cash or gold or other form of wealth and is aimed at giving a financial security to the wife in the case of divorce or death of the man.

The nikah was carried out in Hyderabad on Monday, Apr 12 after several weeks of controversy over Shoaib Malik's first marriage with Ayesha Siddiqui.

Qazi Najmuddin Hussain who performed the marriage said that the 'mehr' was fixed at Rs 61 lakh in cash.

However, what is making news is the fact that Shoaib paid a meagre Rs 500 mehr to his first wife Ayesha Siddiqui while Sania Mirza got a grand price.

Shaoib Malik married Siddiqui in 2002 over a telephonic nikah but claims that she was not the girl he fell in love with as the photographs sent to him online were that of another girl.

The Pakistani all-rounder divorced Siddiqui a week ago and agreed to pay Rs 15,000 as maintainance to Ayesh for a span of three months, which breaks down to Rs 5000 per month.

Shoaib Provides Wrong Information on Father's Name In Divorce (Talaqnama) Papers?

Shoaib gave false Name of his Father in Talaqnama. His Fathers Name is spelt wrong, it is written as 'Malik Faqeer Hussain' in the Invitation Card of Shoaib's Wedding reception to Sania and it's spelt 'Malik Saleem Hussain' in the Talaq Nama (Divorce Papers) and Nikahnama, released by Ayesha's family. HYDERABAD: Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, who is set to marry Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza, could land in fresh trouble for furnishing false information while giving divorce to his first wife Ayesha Siddiqui, according to official documents.

The divorce and agreement papers, which Shoaib signed April 7, have the name of his late father as Malik Saleem Hussain while the invitation for the April 15 wedding reception carries the name of his father as Malik Faqeer Hussain, the documents show.

According to legal experts, Shoaib could face legal action if Ayesha's family files a case against him on charges of furnishing false information.

The wrong name given in divorce certificate and the agreement signed on Rs 100 stamp paper could be yet another attempt by Shoaib to show that he did not marry Ayesha, they said.

The former Pakistani skipper divorced Ayesha on Wednesday after she filed a police case against him for cheating. Sania's family members and some community elders convinced him to end the row through divorce.

It was immediately not known if Ayesha's family would again approach the police against Shoaib.

The Pakistani star is still caught in a legal mesh as the police have not yet returned his passport which was seized about a week ago.

Though Ayesha has informed the police that she was withdrawing her complaint, Shoaib would get back his passport only after completing legal formalities.

With police yet to return Shoaib's passport, the qazi expressed his inability to perform the 'nikah', which was scheduled to take place Friday evening.

Qazis in Hyderabad do not perform marriages of foreigners without verifying the passport and no-objection certificates from their respective governments.

Sources said the nikah would now be possible any day before April 15, the day when Sania's family has planned to host a wedding reception at the Taj Krishna hotel .

In an interview to Mid-day, Ayesha says she loved and helped Shoaib immensely in his days of struggle, only to be insulted and cast aside when he became a star.

In a telephonic interview, Ayesha Siddiqui said that her blind love for Shoaib Malik made her spend crores on him when he was struggling financially. However, she says, once Shoaib attained stardom, he turned ungrateful, mocked her obesity and even 'hurled abuses' at her.

"I was teaching in HALA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL in JEDDAH (View Pictures and Information of Ayesha or Maha Siddiqui from Hala International School in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) when I met Shoaib in 2002. He sought financial support from me when we began interacting with each other. He was not a star then but I loved him and it gave me pleasure to spend on him."

While it was love at first sight for her, Shoaib told her that he was impressed with her grace. In 2005, when her parents insisted they get married, Shoaib reportedly sent her a signed nikahnama and began visiting her in Hyderabad.

"He used to tell me that he was not as well off as I was, but felt fortunate to be my life partner," said Ayesha, who said she never maintained an account of the money she helped him with, but said it was easily over Rs 10 crore.

Volte face

"We were happily married for some time. Then, Shoaib became a star and began complaining about my weight. He said he was not attracted to me anymore," she said. She added that she even underwent silicon binding to lose weight.

"Shoaib started ignoring me and began hurling insults. It was around this time that I suffered a miscarriage," she said. Depressed, she began neglecting her diet and turned diabetic. Her hypothyroidism also contributed to her weight. "I was hurt that a man I loved so much turned inhuman when he won fame and wealth. Anyway, it is all a closed chapter now. I wish him and Sania all the best," she concluded.

I had a little role to play in the Shoaib Malik-Ayesha Siddiqui Wedding saga (Click link for details). In March 2002, Malik came to me during the Asian Test championship final between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at Lahore. He asked me if I could help publish the news of his nikah with a girl settled in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (follow link for details of Ayesha in Jeddah). I emailed the news to a friend in Arab News and the story came out the following day. Malik thanked me, saying that her family had seen the story. In September 2004, Malik accepted in a popular television programme called Ek Din Geo ke Saath that he had married Ayesha.

In 2005, most of us journalists touring India attended a function hosted by the Siddiquis in their Hyderabad house. Ayesha was missing, and Malik later told us that she was not in town. Three years later, we learnt that the Siddiqui family wanted Malik to either accept or divorce Ayesha.

What we gather is this: As a member of the Pakistani ODI team to Sharjah in 2000, Malik met Ayesha along with her friend, Maha, in a Dubai restaurant. Malik liked Maha, and Ayesha realised that. On her return, Ayesha wrote emails to Malik, posing as Maha. She also sent Maha’s picture as hers.

When the two families agreed to a wedding, Ayesha sent her original picture, a bit bulky and bespectacled. Malik got angry and said that he would not like to marry her. Recently, Ayesha claimed that two senior Pakistani players—Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Yousuf—could confirm that she and Malik lived together in the team hotel in Hyderabad.

Malik and Sania have been romancing since 2003, away from the glare of the media. They have met off and on and were in regular touch, mostly on phone. Earlier this year, Malik and Sania spent time in Melbourne. Sania was playing and Malik was on the sidelines after being ousted from the Pakistan team.

“Malik along with fielding and bowling coach Waqar Younis took permission to attend tennis matches and we allowed him. He later invited Sania to the team hotel and both had lunch and dinner together,” a team official on the tour said.
Malik, one of the most talented cricketers in Pakistan, derailed his career in the last three years because of his own insecurities. Instead of believing in his own enormous talent, Malik has become negative. On March 10, Malik along with six top players were handed bans and fines.

Sania’s background is different from his. Malik comes from a modest family. They used to live in downtown Sialkot and it was only after Malik played for Pakistan and later for Gloucestershire that the family bought a new house in Sialkot Cantonment. Then, through Shoaib Akhtar, Malik bought a villa in the posh Defence area of Lahore. His father, Faqeer Malik, a businessman, died in 2006.

Malik is very possessive and will have to change his attitude. Sania plays with male players, and for her, hugging a man is very common. Malik’s family, especially his mother, might not take kindly to it. It is almost a tradition that Punjabi boys follow their mothers more than their fathers. Ayesha herself has said that Malik’s father was supportive of her. “Shoaib would always make fun of my being fat,” she had said. “His father was a very good and kind person. He backed me as his bahu. But since his death, things started to change.”

They say it ain't over until the fat lady sings. On Wednesday, Ayesha Siddiqui, former Pakistani cricket captain Shoaib Malik's mystery wife, must have been singing rather happily, closeted behind the high gates of her Banjara Hills bungalow.

Ayesha, 29, who has chosen to remain out of sight through this controversy, citing obesity as an inhibiting factor, will get a formal divorce and Rs 15 crore from her 'husband', bringing to an end the weeklong soap opera that had gripped the Indian sub-continent.

Like that extra laddoo after a plentiful feast, the Shoaib-Sania's April 15 wedding now has the air of needless indulgence. The nation has already had its fill.

Following late night negotiations spearheaded by several Muslim leaders from the Congress, including cricketer-cum-Member of Parliament Mohammad Azharuddin, Andhra Pradesh Minorities Welfare Minister Mohammed Ahmadullah, and Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Abid Rasool Khan, the matter was resolved and Ayesha's family will withdraw all cases against Shoaib lodged with Hyderabad police.

Officially, Ayesha will get Rs 5,000 as mehr for three months during the Iddat period as her alimony according to the Shariat law. The Siddiqui family emphatically denies any additional money changing hands but sources close to the family have told some newspapers that Shoaib has agreed to pay Rs 12 crore directly to Ayesha and her family and another Rs 3 crore towards sundry ‘costs.’ A group of five community elders have taken the responsibility of coordinating the management, it is believed. Ayesha has to reciprocate by withdrawing the police case against Malik.

He has been booked under sections 498A (harassment), 420 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

One of those involved in the exercise told Mumbai Mirror, “Shoaib was reluctant to sign the papers. But we all convinced him that as per the nikaahnama, he had married a girl, and he should divorce her keeping this in mind.” Malik took the risk only after consulting Sania and her father Imran Mirza.

Community leader Major Qadri, who announced the ‘amicable and respectful settlement’ between Malik and Ayesha to the media, said, “To be on the safe side, we mentioned her name on divorce papers as ‘Ayesha alias Maha Siddiqui’.”

Ayesha’s mother Farisa Siddiqui, who represented the family at the media announcement at Khan’s Banjara Hills residence, said, “Justice has been done. We are happy now. Ayesha is relieved and happy. I have no comments to make on Shoaib’s claims all these days.”

Mohammed Azharuddin Among Muslim Leaders Who Brokered/Negotiated Shoaib-Ayesha Talaq (Divorce) Deal

Muslim leaders persuade Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik to divorce Ayesha Siddiqui to end the marriage controversy and ‘save the entire community’s image and reputation

Members of the Islam community, swung into action to end the controversy over the marriage of Shoaib Malik with Ayesha Siddiqui, persuaded the Pak cricketer to give the Hyderabadi girl a talaq (divorce). They were forced to intervene following pressure from people in Pakistan, Dubai (where Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik plan to settle) and India who felt that the controversy was embarrassing the entire community.

Cricketer-turned-MP Md Azharuddin, Andhra Pradesh Minorities Welfare Minister Mohammed Ahmadullah, and state Congress secretary Abid Rasool Khan took the initiative to end the controversy.

Major Qadri, a community leader, announced the ‘amicable and respectful settlement’ between Malik and Ayesha.

According to reports, one of those involved in the negotiations said, “Shoaib was reluctant to give a divorce. But, we convinced him that, according to the nikahnama, he had married a girl and he should divorce her.” As part of the deal, Shoaib will pay her Rs 15,000 over the next three months while Ayesha will withdraw the cases against him. Sources said there were some other conditions that the cricketer has agreed to. A group of five community elders took the responsibility of executing the deal.

In March 2005 it was reported that an Indian Girl from Jeddah had married Pakistani Criketer Shoaib Malik, as expected the love story involving them had caught everybody by surprise. His wife is Ayesha (aka Maha Siddiqui) - a Hyderabadi girl brought up in Saudi Arabia, it was said. She worked as an administrator in a Jeddah school and was doing an MBA at that time.

It was also reported that later that year when Pakistan's cricket team tours India, Shoaib would visit Hyderabad for a practice match and it will be an occasion where he will be meeting his in-laws along with the Pak team.

Shoaib Malik Divorces First Wife Ayesha Siddiqui, After Accepting Marriage Signs Divorce Papers, No Alimony

Former Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik divorced his first wife Ayesha Siddiqui on Wednesday, ahead of his planned marriage to Sania Mirza - This is Shoaib's Dramatic Volta Face after refusing to accept her as wife. In a fresh twist, Shoaib signed the talaknama or divorce papers, conceding thereby that he was indeed married to Ayesha Siddiqui.

Shoaib all the while had been denying the nikaah and had challenged Ayesha to come out in the open. Shoaib, who is in Hyderabad to marry tennis ace Sania Mirza, was accused of dumping Ayesha without a divorce because of her being overweight.

Shoaib had earlier admitted to the nikaahnama but said it was invalid since he was cheated into marrying Ayesha. He had claimed that Ayesha was not the girl whose photographs were sent to him by the Siddiqui family as Ayesha's.

Shams Babar, a friend of the Siddiqui family, said Malik had acknowledged his marriage to Siddiqui despite earlier denials. “Both Shoaib and Ayesha have signed the divorce papers today,” said Babar. The divorce has been settled, under the condition that no alimony will be given.

Sources reveal that the compromise between the Mirza and Siddiqui families was reached late on Tuesday night and that the divorce paper has been signed by Shoaib.

Siddiqui's lawyer Farooq Hassan confirmed the divorce, saying that the case against Shoaib was too strong, and there was no escape. He was force to accept he lied.

Earlier the Siddiqui family on Sunday had filed a police complaint against Malik over his plans to wed Sania Mirza. Police had questioned Malik and seized his passport.

In her complaint, Siddiqui alleged that Malik married her in June 2002 and she accused him of subjecting her to cruelty and harassment by denying that the wedding took place and by trying to marry another woman.

The Siddiqui's will now withdraw all FIRs and cases filed aginst Shoaib Malik. Ayesha's mother, Farisa Siddiqui said she is very happy with the compromise and that she is relieved now.

Shoaib's Family Friend Ameen Shaikh Says Ayesha is Malik's Wife and is Saying the Truth

NEW DELHI: In a shocking admission, a family friend of the Maliks, Ameen Shaikh told TIMES NOW on Wednesday that the photo he had seen was indeed that of Ayesha Siddiqui, who claims to have married the Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik in 2002.

This revelation comes as Shoaib and tennis ace Sania Mirza had put up a united front, standing firm that Ayesha Siddiqui's claims of being married to Shoaib were false.

However, Ameen Shaikh has admitted that the photo that was shown to him was that of Ayesha Siddiqui, but just a thinner version of her. He added that Ayesha was telling the truth.

He said, "I'm fairly sure, the girl was of Shoaib's choice. Shoaib and Ayesha Siddiqui had been friends from Dubai. His father had told me of their friendship several times. I'm saddened by all the things that are happening to Ayesha Siddiqui. Now I've heard that he is planning to marry a tennis player. I don't understand what is happening."

"Shoaib's father told me that the nikah with Ayesha Siddiqui was done, just the rukhsat was left. And he even asked me to join in the celebrations, because I'm family. Ayesha is telling the truth that she is married to him. His father told me they were married. I've seen her photo also, his father showed me the photo. I know it's the same girl. When I saw her on TV, the only difference was that she was thinner before," added Ameen.

Pakistani Cricketers Say They Were Never Introduced to Ayesha Siddiqui

Pakistani Cricket Team Supports shoaib Malik:

Team Members and officials of the Pakistan cricket team touring India in 2005 and attended a dinner hosted by the Siddiqui family in Hyderabad have said they had never been introduced to any girl named Ayesha Siddiqui as Shoaib Malik's wife.

Former Test cricketer, Salim Altaf who was the manager of the team on that tour, said they had gone to attend the reception on the request of Shoaib Malik.

"Malik had told us that the Siddiqui's were his future in-laws and the parents of the girl he intended to marry soon," Altaf said. "We went because of Malik but we never met anyone introduced to us as Ayesha Siddiqui," he said.

Pakistani opener, Imran Nazir also rejected claims by Ayesha that she had spoken to him over telephone and been introduced to him as Malik's wife. "I don't know why she has given this statement. Malik is my close friend but I never spoke to his fiance over phone," Nazir said. "What she has said about me is absolutely wrong," he added.

All-rounder Abdul Razzaq said that he went to Siddiqui's home in the city for the reception during 2005 tour, but he or the players never met any girl named Ayesha.

He maintained that the players met with Ayesha's mother and father but Ayesha was not at the home. Malik had maintained that during his visit to the Siddiqui's home, he was told that Ayesha was not present while Ayesha claimed she was told by Malik himself that not to come out in front of his teammates as she has become fatty and would embarrass him.

In an Interview in response to Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza's press interaction and allegations against her in Hydrabad, Ayesha Siddiqui Said I've not hidden anything from Shoaib.

Ayesha Siddiqui, who has been claiming to be Shoaib Malik's wife, hit back at the Pakistani cricketer immediately after he defended himself in Hyderabad on Monday with tennis star Sania Mirza standing by his side.

In an exclusive telephonic interview to Headlines Today, Ayesha mounted a scathing attack on Sania and claimed that the latter was now stooping to personal level while targeting her. She said she never spoke against Sania. "Sania says I was the one who was cheating or doing 'Dhoaka'". Then refering to Sania's broken engagement she said "sab ko patha hai koun dokhe baz hai. Everybody is talking about how Sania cheated her fiance and dropped him like a potato and only 2 months after that she is marrying someone else. I atlest have the same person for the last 10 years. I donot want to get into her personel matter, but she has accused my family and said this and that. She does not know the truth about what has happened between Shoaib and me so she should not interfere in this."

Ayesha denied allegations of Shoaib that she committed a fraud with him. "I am tired of defending myself. I have not hidden anything from Shoaib," she said.

She alleged that Shoaib changed after becoming successful in the international cricket. The cricketer has been lying all this time, she added.

Asked why was she silent for so long and came out against the cricketer after the news of his proposed marriage to Sania came out recently, Ayesha replied, "Everything was over three years ago. It was only after Shoaib said he was cheated (by Ayesha and her family) that we came out in media."

"We have never approached media. Media came to us asking to clarify on Shoaib's allegation that he was cheated in the name of marriage," Ayesha reiterated.

Admitting that she was overweight and diabetic, as told by Shoaib earlier, Ayesha slammed him for terming her as his 'aapa' (elder sister). "He is not worth being called a Muslim," she said.

She also clarified that she had never send any photographs of hers or anybody elses' to Shoaib through E-mail, they had infact met in person for the first time in Sharja in the year 2000 and after that began talking over the phone. She said she had no access to internet in those days. She started using the net only in 2003, she said.

Ayesha said she will come out in public when the right time comes.

He also mentions his wife's name as Ayesha and that he is very happy with her. Shoaib also sings an old hindi song for Ayesha "Choad do Anchal Zamana Kya Kahega...." in this interview conducted 6 years ago. This interview proves that Shoaib was indeed wedded to Ayesha Siqqiqui and that she is his first wife.
