After years of their courtship, Bollywood's chocolate boy Imran Khan finally married his long time girlfriend Avantika Malik on Monday (January 10 2011). Belonging to different communities, Imran and Avantika preferred to have a civil marriage rather than any religious rituals. They got their marriage registered at the house of Imran's maternal uncle and actor Aamir Khan.

The newlyweds looked grand in their traditional outfits. Imran was dressed in a black bandhgala while Avantika glowed in a light grey lehenga choli with a red border.

Like Imran, Aamir too chose black while his wife Kiran Rao chose a purple-gold lehenga choli.

Later in the evening, Imran and Avantika hosted a dinner party for close family and friends at Mumbai's Taj Lands End Hotel.

The newlyweds will head off to Thailand for their honeymoon.

Meanwhile, Aamir will host a reception for the couple once they return from their honeymoon.

Karan Johar Designs Wedding Outfit for Imran Khan

Imran Khan will tie the knot with his longtime girlfriend Avantika Malik on January 10, 2011. And the buzz is that director and good friend of the couple Karan Johar would help in designing Imran and Avantika's wedding attires with his designer friends, Manish Malhotra and Varun Bahl.

According to reports Avantika will don an orange and ash hued lehenga for the wedding. Imran will be wearing a traditional outfit on the Mehendi ceremony on January 8. Imran will wear a western outfit-A Suit for the wedding on January 10th.

It is said that Aamir Khan, Imran’s maternal uncle and his son Junaid will also don outfits that will be specially designed by Karan Johar.

Imran-Avantika Have a Sunset Wedding Ceremony

Get ready for the first Bollywood wedding of 2011. On Monday, January 10, actor Imran Khan ties the knot with long-time girlfriend Avantika Malik. The wedding ceremony itself may be a family-only affair, but there’s also a star-studded mehandi party and a wedding bash in Thailand on the cards.


On Saturday, the couple will host a mela (carnival) themed mehandi cum pre-wedding bash at the Maliks’ farmhouse in Karjat on the outskirts of Mumbai. Cooks who’ve served Imran’s family for over five decades, will be flown in from Lucknow. The registered marriage will take place at Imran’s house — with a black, white and silver-themed ceremony. This will be followed by a dinner at Mumbai’s Taj Lands End.

After this, the party will move to Phuket, Thailand, for a beachside celebration. Designers Shantanu and Nikhil Mehra, who are designing outfits for the beach ceremony, reveal, “It is a sunset wedding, so we’ve designed a scarlet gown for Avantika.”

Designer Varun Bahl is designing one of the wedding outfits, while Manish Malhotra is designing Avantika’s wedding lehenga. The invite for the pre-wedding bash has been designed by Mumbai-based designer Uttara Shah. The box with the invite has chocolates and a swipe card. “The invite is designed like a 2011 planner, personalised with names. They were clear that they did not want a traditional wedding card,” says Shah.

Among the invitees are filmmakers Danish Aslam, Punit Malhotra, Kunal Kohli, actors Genelia D’Souza, Sonam Kapoor, Shruti Seth, Kunal Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. Deepika Padukone is cutting short her London vacation with beau Siddharth Mallya to attend Saturday’s bash. “The wedding is going to be one mad party,” says Seth. “I’m really looking forward to the wedding. I wish them all the best,” says Kohli.

THE INVITATION: It contains two boxes in black and silver which state Two Thousand Eleven — A Year To Remember. One box contains chocolates while the other carries a 2011 diary- like year planner, potpourri and a pinwheel.

The invite attached to the pinwheel states: ‘ Mehndi on January 8 between 5 pm and 8 pm — and we party thereafter until dawn’.

SUGGESTED FOOTWEAR FOR THE WOMEN GUESTS: The invite carries a party hint: ‘ Ladies are advised that stilettos may be uncomfortable.Flats or block heels recommended’

SWIPE CARD: Each invite includes a swipe card and guests have been told to carry it for security reasons. The reverse of the swipe card has an address map.

THE DESIGNER: The invitation has been designed by one of Mumbai’s sought- after highend contemporary invitation card designers, Uttara Shah.

Engagement invite

Imran got engaged to Avantika at Karjat on January 16, 2010. The engagement invitation was in the shape of a metal box that contained a bottle of sand.

The invites were rolled into the bottle. Guests had been invited to a day long outing that included a brunch, followed by the exchange of rings and dinner.
